A man was found dead in a Houston motel room along the East Freeway while deputies served a warrant next door, authorities say. Investigators are actively working the scene.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies serving a parole warrant at a motel along the East Freeway in Channelview discovered a separate deadly shooting Tuesday morning.
Around 11:15 a.m., Precinct 3 constable deputies arrived at the Deluxe Inn & Suites to arrest a man wanted on a Louisiana parole warrant. That suspect was detained without incident. While at the scene, deputies noticed a broken window in the room next door.
Upon checking the room, deputies found a man in his 30s dead in the bathroom from an apparent gunshot wound. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit Sgt. Sydney Miller said detectives believe at least three people had been at the room prior to an altercation. Investigators are working to determine when the victim was last seen, who he may have been in contact with, and the timeline of the shooting.
Several shell casings were recovered in the parking lot near the unit. The broken window may have been struck by gunfire, though that has not been confirmed. Officials believe the shooting occurred Monday night, but the exact timing is under investigation.
Authorities say there is no known connection between the parole-warrant suspect and the victim. The motel is known for high drug activity, but investigators have not confirmed a motive.
